This makes it a great budget alternative to brass for weights! ![]() Zinc has a slightly lower density than brass, and takes to casting well. For the Bakeneko65 we are offering two different internals: one with a silicone dampener, and another with a cast zinc weight. One tradeoff of the casting process is different surface finish properties. The Bakeneko65 is made from aluminum alloy using a casting process vs CNC. The decision to use cast aluminum was made to drive down cost maximally, and to more quickly produce keyboards. We also designed our own solderable and hotswap PCB. Our version of the Bakeneko65 features a few key changes from kkatano's original design to allow it to be casted. Cutouts on the PCB allow the o-ring to rest on the mounting points built into the case. The result is a bouncy typing feel with a great sound profile. An o-ring between the plate and PCB provides friction to hold the plate/PCB assembly in the one-piece case. ![]() Originally designed by kkatano, the Bakeneko65 is an open-source keyboard featuring an o-ring gasket. CannonKeys is proud to offer an affordable in-stock aluminum keyboard with great sound and feel.
